I use a head collar. I have a Belgium malinois and she can pull really bad with a collar or harness. The only thing that gets her attention is when I pull it just slightly and it stops her from being able to pull or go after something. It's a lot easier to correct her with it

We got on Napoleon five days ago and he’s only four months and I’m not kidding. Please explain how to really remove this type of behavior. I saw one of your videos, but your dog did not seem to react at all and that matter, we took him outside. He’s fine but when he comes back is like another ball game.

Zach I like ruff wear harnesses and he has lots of support from the breast plate. But it looks like it’s too close to his neck and impedes his normal movement to put his head down to sniff. No harness is perfect- it’s just a suggestion.

I think outfitting yourself or your dog with one of those vests usually used by those with reactive dogs that say something like "REACTIVE DOG", "I NEED SPACE", or "IN TRAINING" is a great idea for anyone to use when out with their dog. That way you prevent those awkward/annoying moments in the first place. Right now I'm only in the ideation stage of adopting another dog in the future, but am already planning to get one just in case I want to avoid people approaching with their dog/petting my dog, for whatever reason. I'm an introvert; maybe *_I_* need to be left alone 🤣

I can see Zak is a jealous bitter individual since the dog daddy trains live and has a very positive outcome with the animals, and you spend your time making video to try and discredit. Shame

Love this series. As a long time GSD owner myself - I see no benefit whatsoever in teaching your dog (any dog) to climb on you or "hug" as you call it. It's especially inappropriate if you are hoping the gorgeous Moira would behave well with children. Guess that's the difference between "training" and "tricks". In my humble opinion, "tricks" should only be encouraged when a dog is trained. Likewise, when Moira is only just grasping the concept of "down", why start teaching her an utterly pointless "bow" which is basically an improper down?

I'm very late to this series but it is EXACTLY what I needed to see. Thank you so much for making this series available to me. I have a young rescue GSD who, apart from slight colour variations, is Moira's twin! Her behaviour is identical. I am a very experienced dog owner and have rescued GSD's before but this new one has been really hard work. We adore her - I hope it goes without saying - but she's quite a handful 😊 Getting her interested in toys was a challenge but now she is ball obsessed - and that, in turn, has helped further training. She will now look for her ball rather than a dog - where she was just like Moira (spotting every dog within a 2 mile radius and laser focusing on them!). Thank you VERY much - there are some great tips in this series. I hope Moira found the wonderful home she deserves.

I really appreciated how you explained the way you re-asses Inertia and your surroundings each time before deciding to let her off-leash. I think there's often this mystique surrounding professional or otherwise high-level animal trainers -whether it be with dogs, horses, or cats- when they seem to have this almost supernatural connection with, or control over, their animal. Like their animal would never think of running off. But that's never true and it's not a failing on the part or trainers or animals. It's simply a fact that animals have thoughts, feelings, and reactions, they get scared, curious. There's always a chance that the invisible string of connection people weave day in and day out for years and years with their animal could snap. It's a matter of building the best connection and training while paying attention to our animals' emotional states and the contexts in which we are working. It's our job to prepare them, but also to continually look out for them and only put them in risky situations like off-leash play when we've assessed the risk to be low enough in that particular situation

So what if you dog stops right when he realizes you have the treats and has no desire now to do anything but sit and look at you.

Look Zak it is really simple. If trainers like you were capable of healing those super aggressive dogs, they wouldnt be left for Dog Daddy. If you watch his videos, the owners usually had multiple other trainers just give up on their dogs. He isnt doing that because he thinks its fun or he likes to inflict pain on the dog. He is doing it because he has no other choice to save the dog. Meanwhile you have already given up on the dog which is sad and makes you a way worse trainer.

Hey Zak, when will you start making your promised videos teaching aggressive dogs and allowing them a 2nd chance at live? I mean nice video on how to train a small puppy that is easy to shape, but thats not really what you promised us all.
